A long range RFID tag is a type of RFID tag designed to be read from much greater distances than typical RFID tags. While standard RFID tags might have a read range of a few centimeters to a meter, long range RFID tags can be read from several meters up to tens of meters away.
Long range RFID tags typically operate in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band, ranging from approximately 860 MHz to 960 MHz. These tags come in different types, such as passive RFID tags and active RFID tags. Passive tags have no battery and rely on the reader’s signal for power. They can achieve read ranges up to around 12 meters under optimal conditions. Active tags contain their own power source and can actively transmit signals. This allows them to be read from distances exceeding 100 meters. There are also semi-passive or battery-assisted passive tags that offer intermediate read ranges by combining features of both passive and active tags.
Long range RFID tags are widely used in various industries to improve efficiency and accuracy. In large warehouses, they enable real-time inventory tracking by allowing items to be scanned from a distance without manual scanning. In transportation, they are essential for vehicle tracking and electronic toll collection systems, helping to manage traffic flow and automate payments. In security, these tags support access control in large facilities by quickly identifying authorized personnel without the need for close contact. Additionally, in logistics and supply chain management, long range RFID tags facilitate seamless asset tracking, ensuring the smooth movement and monitoring of goods throughout the entire supply chain.
